We'll begin with a brief conversation (via phone or in person) about your concerns and what you're hoping to learn from the evaluation. This helps us determine if an assessment is the right next step, and it gives you an opportunity to ask any preliminary questions.
Before we meet, you'll be asked to complete some intake paperwork and gather any relevant records you have (e.g., academic, medical). Filling out these forms in advance helps us make the most of our time together. It allows me to get a clearer picture of your needs and concerns, so we can dive right into meaningful conversation during the interview.
Next, we'll meet for a 60-90 minute clinical interview either in person or via telehealth. During this session, I’ll ask about your background (developmental, educational, medical), current challenges (e.g., difficulties at work, school, home, or in relationships), strengths, coping strategies, and your goals for the evaluation.
If it's a more complex evaluation, with your permission, I may also speak with people involved in your life, such as family members, teachers, or other healthcare providers, to gather additional information and get a more complete picture.
The assessment process includes a combination of standardized tests and subjective tools, which work together to give a well-rounded view of your current functioning. The tests we use will vary depending on your needs, and may take place in-person or via online measures. Here's what we typically include:
Standardized Tests: These are carefully administered and scored using prescribed procedures. Results are compared to established norms and measure areas like IQ, attention, memory, and more. These tests provide an 'objective' way to identify strengths and weaknesses, showing both how you compare to others and how different aspects of your performance relate to each other.
Self-Report Questionnaires: These tools ask you to reflect on and report your own feelings, behaviors, and experiences. They give valuable insight into your emotional and psychological state, helping me understand how you perceive your challenges and strengths.
Testing is often completed in one session, but some self-report questionnaires can be completed online after the interview if needed.
After testing, I’ll carefully score the results and integrate them with the information from the interview. The findings are then compiled into a written report. This report will outline any diagnoses that may have been ruled in or out, identify areas of strength, and provide recommendations for supports or interventions to address any challenges.
We'll schedule a 45-90 minute feedback session, either in person or via telehealth. During this session, we’ll review the findings, discuss the report, and address any questions you may have. You’ll also receive a copy of the full assessment report (either paper or electronic, depending on your preference).
After the evaluation, I remain a resource for you. Whether it’s answering questions, providing further clarification, or helping with referrals to other providers, I’m here to support you through the next steps. If you’re looking for resources for therapy, interventions, or other services, I’m happy to guide you.
I aim to make the evaluation process as clear and supportive as possible. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, autism, ADHD, or another concern, I want to ensure that you leave feeling empowered with actionable information and a path forward.
